How long will a water heater last?

How do I keep my water pipes from freezing in the winter?
The easiest way to help prevent freezing water lines is to close all outside foundation vents, disconnect garden hoses and shut off water from pipes leading to outside. Some homes have a interior shut off valve which usually located in the crawl space or in garage. If your home is on a slab it could be in your utility room. If your home doesn't have a interior shut off valve you can use outdoor faucet covers. During freezing weather you can let the cold water trickle from faucets.
